I am currently programming on a 2*4-core Xeon (L5420) machine using OpenMP. I want to get more cores but keep the OpenMP compatibility. One sure way, I guess, is going for a machine with 2*6-core Xeon. But I need alternatives that can go up to 24 or more cores maybe.
I played with the idea of a machine with this motherboard --> http://www.supermicro.com/Aplus/motherb ... 8QGi-F.cfm
Has 4 sockets and each can take one of amd's 12 core cpus. An example is this --> http://goo.gl/lfKQv
. Meaning can go up to 48 cores. I asked the manufacturer if OpenMP is supported and they answered: "Yes OpenMP is compatible with this system but not officially supported" which tells me nothing.
Buying the machine and then not being able to run my programs is not an option. Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
