What do you mean by "detached threads"?

If you are thinking detached threads in the pthreads sense, no. Threads must be part of a team to do anything useful.

In 3.0 useful work became tasks, which is the master thread throwing work over the wall saying, "hey someone, get this done". When the task is complete all of the task memory is reclaimed and the thread starts looking for more work. This is somewhat akin to detached threads.
